CWA Local 1171

Hello everyone and thank you to all who participated in the the last election! The election has been officially certified and Tom Gunning has been re-elected as President.

We have an opportunity to go forward now on a new path in unity and prepare as we advance into the unknown – and possibly turbulent times ahead. We must continue to fight TOGETHER. Whether in LGA, BUF, EWR, BGR or any of our 26 locations/stations, the battles are similar if not the same. It truly is not ‘station specific’ this epidemic of terminations, discipline levels and disrespect we are ALL facing.

Thank you to those who participated either in person or via ZOOM in our recent 3rd Quarter Membership meeting held in EWR. A lot of discussion was given during the meeting about the animosity and biases that are fueling more division and continue to hurt us as we move forward. Each one of us has a personal history no matter where we began our career. It is not the intent to eliminate or invalidate any of those histories. On that note, a motion was proposed, with second and passed to address this in the form of an official resolution. CWA Local 1171 is adopting the following resolution:

Resolved: “to eliminate any and all references or ‘monikers’ to any of our legacy carriers or subsidiaries, in conversation with or regarding any of our members. It is time to begin to recognize we are all employees of the New American Airlines.”

This is an opportunity, the 1st step for us all to truly begin to unify as a Union. Remember, WE are the Union…You are the Union…United we stand…Divided we fall!

In closing I would like to share a quote from: Charles Swindoll.

Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skills. It will make or break a company…a church…a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we CAN do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.

I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so, it is with you. We alone, are in charge of our attitudes.

Sincerely and in Unity,

Jane
